A development of innovative solutions and effective collaboration
The residential component, known as The Peninsula Residences London, comprises 26 apartments designed by Peter Marino Architects and managed by Strutt & Parker. The project is inspired by the rich heritage of the area and aims to become one of London's most celebrated addresses.
Combatting Space Challenges
The project required efficient ventilation in both the hotel and residential areas, particularly on the upper floors. Installing air handling units in these limited spaces was a challenge due to the need to balance performance, space, and ease of installation.
Air Handling Solutions That Solve Space Challenges
Swegon were commissioned by Cundall & Ellmers to mock-up two bedroom configurations in an air distribution facility to provide both aerodynamic and comfort testing to the relevant standards. Commissioning engineers were invited to visit Swegon’s factory in Gembloux to see the plant prior to the completion of the design. During this initial phase, valuable data and expert guidance on optimal diffuser and room configurations were provided, which informed the subsequent M&E design.
To combat an array of space challenges the GOLD RX Top Air Handling Units were installed in various small, dedicated areas throughout the project.
COMPACT LP and COMPACT TOP unit options were initially utilised, however to take advantage of new product developments throughout the additional phases, the project was completed with GLOBAL LP and CASA unit options to ensure that the ventilation systems met requirements without compromising on performance.

The grand Lobby of The Peninsula London project had a large ceiling height, requiring a sophisticated air distribution system to maintain comfortable temperature and air quality for guests. Ensuring proper airflow in such a spacious area was a complex task. An advanced air distribution design was implemented in The Lobby to efficiently manage airflow in the large space. This included the use of high-capacity FLOWBAR air diffusers carefully positioned to ensure even air distribution.
Swegon were invited back to The Peninsula London after the construction phase was completed to carry out comfort testing within the fully constructed rooms, demonstrating the effectiveness of the design in achieving superior comfort conditions. This enabled one-of-a-kind comfort report, providing a powerful tool to showcase the exceptional quality of the facilities.

Learn moreAn Essential Fire Safety Strategy
Fire safety is paramount in any building. The installation of fire dampers and Swegon’s control package throughout the project was essential to control complex cause-and-effect scenarios in the event of a fire. Due to complexity of the project, this required meticulous planning and coordination. With a strong on-site presence and a hands-on approach, fire dampers and control systems were installed by commissioning engineers throughout, contributing to the building’s overall fire safety strategy. By working with the SRM and the wider design team, Swegon were able to develop a system for allowing the precise control and rapid response of the vast number of dampers in the building in case of a fire emergency.
Given the complexity of the project and the need to address the unique challenges, close collaboration with the design team, contractors, and installers was crucial. Effective communication and teamwork were essential to ensure the seamless integration of ventilation equipment.
